MENTAL HEALTH EMERGENCIES

In the case of an emergency during normal office hours, contact the local Mental Health Centre (see below)

After hours a number of options are available:
* Where there is a possible threat to life and safety call 000 or contact the nearest Police Station in the White Pages Business and Government Telephone Directory under 'Police Victoria'.
* Where there is no immediate risk to life or safety contact local GP or attend a 24 hour Emergency Department of a public hospital
* Crisis Assessment and Treatment teams provide outreach assessment, treatment and intervention services to people in crisis. Most areas of greater Melbourne are covered. These teams can be contacted through the nearest Community Mental Health Centre during office hours after hours via triage numbers.

Services:
* The NATIONAL RELAY SERVICE is a telephone relay service that enables Australians who are deaf, or have a hearing and/or speech impairment to communicate with anyone who uses a standard telephone and vice versa. Calls within Australia are relayed at no additional cost.
* The EMERGENCY RELAY SERVICE is a text-based emergency call service. It is provided as part of the National Relay Service. If you need the Police, Fire or Ambulance you are able to call them directly from your TTY or modem on the number 106.
The service works in the same way the 000 emergency service works except for two things:
First, you call 106 using TTY, VCO, HCO or modem, but not using voice alone.
Second, the emergency Relay Officer will stay with you and relay your call once you are connected to the police, fire or ambulance service
There is a separate emergency call procedure for Speak and Listen callers who use an ordinary phone or mobile rather than a TTY. Dial 1800 555 727 and then ask for 000
Emergency calls via internet relay - ask the relay officer to connect you to Triple Zero (000)
